Ok. I'm over most of my little 'thing' about graduation. It is NOT the end of the world. It was very disappointing but in the grand scheme of things it means nothing. I want to thank you all for your support, your kind words of encouragement meant a lot to me so thank you!
I sat the supplementary exam on Monday. I went to work in the morning and everyone wished me well and said they had faith in me (that was so comforting, if a little misplaced) when I walked out the door at 12:45. I turned up and made friends with the other supp'ers. I sat down, opened my exam and nearly died. It was harder than the first and I have no idea how I went. I finished up and gave the invigilators a huge grin on the way out the door and was tempted to "So long, suckers!" but thought better of it. I walked back into work which was just up the hallway and Linda made me two atrocious coffee (the first one was bad so she tried to make a good one but it was worse) but I was very grateful and drank them anyway. Everyone was really kind about it and I was just so happy that no matter how badly I've fucked this up I'll never have to do that unit again, nor deal with that lecturer.
I found out that I can't do the cushy unit I'd decided on, should I have to pick up another unit to complete my degree. I have found a replacement today and will go down and enrol in it tomorrow as it's a summer school and the places are numbered. Lindene has given me the go-ahead to move my work hours around so it's all systems go at the moment.
Today was my last day at work until the new year. The uni has a forced holiday over Christmas policy so everyone else finishes up on Friday and won't come back until the 2nd of January. I had a nice chat with Lindene on the way out the door. Gave everyone a Christmas lolly which seems to be fast becoming my 'thing'. I wouldn't mind being my department's Lolly Supplier, it could be worse. Everyone LOVES Werther's so I make sure I've got a packet nearby.
Our offices back straight onto the back of the Library and the Library has a back door type thing just beside our front door. As I was walking out the door I saw Mary from the library through the glass doors working away on something. I walked down the little steps to get to the door, knocked to get her attention (the doors are always locked) and held a butterscotch up to show her. Mary has a reputation in the Library about food and lollies, Mary knows Mary has a reputation and Mary isn't afraid emphasise any of it. Despite all this Mary is way too thin.
Anyway, Mary's eyes lit up and she dropped what she was doing, lept over a pile of books, tripped over a trolley of more books and lept at the door. She opened the door and with a big grin said "HI!" to the lolly I was holding. At this point I was starting to get worried about her taking my arm if she dived for the lolly but she controlled herself. I handed over the butterscotch and wished her a merry Christmas. We chatted for a while about things, our plans and made note of when each other were returning in the new year. I'll get my people to call her people and we'll do lunch in the new year..
Speaking of returning in the new year, Lindene isn't coming back when the rest of are and she's taken Fred (my cactus) into her office because her office gets more sunlight than mine. We were discussing if Fred would make it until she returned and I said I'd be in really early on the day she returns to find out if Fred is ok. She has informed me that she'll be in earlier than me and that if Fred is cactus (ha, ha.. her words, not mine) then she'll be locking her door, closing the blinds and calling Sue (those two are as thick as thieves) to go buy Fred Mark II. I am worried now..
Linda bought me a lovely Christmas present. (Funny. She's Buddhist and buys Christmas pressies). It's a Buddhist zen chimey thingy. It's now living in my monitor-well and no doubt, will come in very handy when semester starts and there's a gazillion students running about asking stupid questions and a millions staff panicking and they're all calling me. She's a sweet heart!
Well, that's about all..
Free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last.
Well, that is barring any exam marking accidents. I've finished my exams for this year. I won't know how I did until the 1st of December when the results are released.
So, now I can dedicate my time to work and shopping and Christmas preparations. I'm actually looking forward to Christmas this year. Thanks to some accidental saving (my shopping buddy wasn't available) and a new job, I have plenty of cash to buy people what I really think they'd fancy so it should be fun. I've ordered Mum 3 latin books already and I have plans on going shopping next week with my sister for some stuff. I have 3 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law, 14 nieces and nephews, plus friends and ma 'n pa to buy for. And that's only if I ignore my brother and sister-in-law and 2 sons in the UK.
Next week Dad is going into hospital, for hip replacement surgery. He went in today to pick out his hip. Who knew you got to pick? I told him to go hot pink so he could explore his feminine side without anyone ever having to know. I think someone said something about a glow in the dark hip.. but that would be a little too freaky.
Anyway. Apparently, you get to pick whether it's plastic and metal or all metal or whatever. I think he's going with the plastic and metal one so he doesn't set off EVERY metal detector when he travels.. only some of them.
Now, don't be too shocked but I heard Rammstein's Du Hast for the first time last week. I know! It's been around for years, I don't know where I was to have missed it. I really liked it. It was really angry, yet no screaming, which I'm not a fan of. And at the Comp. Graphics & Animation movie show a lot of people had picked Prodigy songs to go with their movies and I liked them too. I think I must be in an angry music mood.. so if anyone else has some recommendations, I'm all ears. ;)
Free at last... It's good to be back on the radar.. :D
