How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?

All the time! When I'm on the phone at work (I work on a helpdesk) I get Karen and Carrie-Ann all the time. Sometimes I have to tell people to send an email to one of the admin accounts and they usually come in "Hi Carrie". I decided I needed a phone name that I could give out when I'm on the phone .. I thought something exotic but something people would remember and could spell.. like Natasha.. or a guy's name like James or Tom.. I haven't worked out something decent yet. I'm to the point now where I just don't say my name unless it's a direct phone call to me but people like to know and they'll say "Who did you say you were? Carrie? Oh! Karen.. Hi.." meanwhile I'm bashing my head against the desk.
My name is Cariad. It is pronounced Carry-Add.. unless you're Welsh or Indian, in which case you roll the 'R' like you're purring. But that's completely optional. One of the women I did summer school with asked me drunkenly if I ever shortened it to help people out 'cos it was "REALLY REALLY difficult".. my rather terse reply was "No, it is a word. It has a meaning.. it's not difficult. Carry - Add.." .. this was right after she drop a half chewed hors d'oeuvre on my favourite dress trousers so I wasn't feeling particularly friendly towards her.
Look! I even make it into the Urban Dictionary. You know you're someone when you're in there.
